The gearbox in a corn picker transmits rotational power from the combine drive train to header gathering and snapping rolls. Refill with Correct Gear Oil: Use the grade and volume specified in the manual. Check fluid level via dipstick or fill port.
Manual Rotation Check: Rotate input shaft to confirm smooth gear engagement and absence of binding.
Run Under Light Load: Engage the corn header at low engine speed, listening and watching for normal operation.
Monitor Oil Temperature and Level: After initial hours of operation, recheck oil level and inspect for leaks.
Schedule Follow-Up Inspection: Plan to re-inspect gearbox after 10–20 hours to confirm no new issues.
